Why do prophecy-minded Christians have such a fatalistic view of the world?
The Bible clearly warns that the latter days will be a time of great wickedness and apostasy. As we get close to the tribulation, one has to expect the general moral state of the world to be headed in a downward slope.
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition" (2 Thes. 2:3).
"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Mat 24:11-12).
The unavoidably nature of prophecy doesn't mean believers should just sit back and watch society disintegrate. Our job is to witness to people about their sinful condition. We should be contending for the faith until the day Jesus calls us home.
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen" (Mat. 28: 18-20).
