If God selected those who would saved, how is this loving and just?

No one, fallen person would choose God if left to himself. God does not actively suppress faith in non-believers or those whom He does not choose. He simply passes over them. He actively works faith into the hearts of those whom He chooses, offering His grace, mercy and love. Since we are all sinners and deserve death God is just in doing so. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23) and "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through our Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). It is important to point out that the Bible speaks in terms of "justice" and not in terms of "fairness."
