What are some of the common misunderstandings of the Bible?
- The Bible never says that Eve ate an apple; it just says "fruit."
- All animals did not enter the ark in twos; some came in sevens.
- The Bible does not say that Jonah was swallowed by a whale; it does say that he was in the belly of a big fish.
- Never does the Bible say that three wise men visited Jesus. It numbers the gifts that the wise men brought, so it is commonly accepted that if each one brought one of the three gifts, then there were three men.
- • It should not be called "the feeding of the 5,000." The Bible records that there were about 5,000 men, but there were also many, many women and children who also ate of the loaves and fish.
- "Money is the root of all evil," is not a quote from the Bible. The true quote is, "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil."
- "God helps those who help themselves" is nowhere to be found in Scripture as a quote, nor as a principle.
These are just a few examples that show how, over the years, common acceptance of Scripture translation and hearing the same thing over and over can begin to erode and distort the original meaning of God's Word. Hopefully, this will spur you to find your truth in the pages of Scripture first and foremost.
